(Sorry I skipped last week folks . . . it was that evil cold.)
From BTT:
I’ve always wondered what other people do when they come across a word/phrase that they’ve never heard before. I mean, do they jot it down on paper so they can look it up later, or do they stop reading to look it up on the dictionary/google it or do they just continue reading and forget about the word?

I very rarely look them up. Mostly I just skip over the word and forget about it.
I usually skip them too and try to gain meaning from the context. If I keep running into the same word I usually look it up.
oh good- glad I'm not the only one who says, "hmmm, wonder what that means" and then plugs along. I did question a phrase from Water for Elephants, though- I'd never heard "salad days" before that and wondered what it meant. Well, lo and behold I learned from Alton Brown on his salad show last week that it means the good days of youth and inexperience- see you can learn from t.v.!
Thanks for the info Sonya. I've heard "salad days" several times and never bothered to look it up. I think I decided it meant poorer days, like you could only afford to eat a salad. Good to know the real meaning.
What does salad have to do with youth and inexperience?
