A number of us in book club have read Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. The movie version of the first book, The Golden Compass, is coming out this month and it is stirring up some kind of controversy!
Here's an interesting essay on it, today's post on Conversational Reading.

Wow- that is interesting. I'm surprised such heavy material is the basis for a young adult book and that they made it into a movie. How many book club folks have read the book? Would it be worth planning to read The Golden Compass in the future?
I would love to discuss The Golden Compass with our book club. I wouldn't mind re-reading it; it's one of my favorite series of all time. The really meaty discussion points would come from the second and third books.
That sounds like a great idea. I just read the series a couple of months ago, and would love to discuss the books and the movie adaptation.
