The Kindle

Does anyone have a Kindle or considered buying one? I've been firmly anti- e-readers in the past but I think I'm warming up to the idea of a Kindle. A few people at work have them and love them. I'm impressed by how close the text looks to book text and it would be so nice for travel. I recently realized you can subscribe to magazines through it too. I'm all for reducing book and magazine clutter in my house. At ~$360, it's still too expensive for me but I can only assume cheaper, better versions will continue to roll out as it gains in popularity.

I've had my Kindle 2 for a month now and I love it. I travel a lot and it's so great to take my books with me without lugging lots of heavy books around in my bag.

I've had no eyestrain with the Kindle whatsoever which is wonderful. I'm prone to migraines and reading small print for extended periods of time can trigger a headache for me. I love the fact that I can make the print bigger on the Kindle with literally just the press of a button.

That's great to know about the eyestrain, Ruth. That was one of my concerns too.

I'm on the fence with the Kindle. The concept is very cool but I just really love the feel of a book in my hands.

I would get a Kindle. But I'd rather have an iPhone with a Kindle app. I don't need another handheld device in my purse, that's for sure. The appeal to a Kindle or other e-Reader has always been the ability to read in the dark with it. This would have been best when I was a kid in the car on long rides at night.

Today I read about another enhancement to e-Readers, the ability to network readers so that they can share content:

I LOVE mine. The ability to buy books in less then a minute is wonderful (and quite dangerous). Y

You can also download free 'samples' of a book to see if you like it. I like this because I used to read a few pages in the book store before I would decide to purchase a book.

To Liz's point, you still need a book light with the kindle. with this technology there is no back lighting - which I think helps with the eyestrain.

They have just recently dropped the price - still expensive but getting more affordable. Also, when you factor in the cost of the ebooks vs actual books it does eventually pay for itself. (Let's hope it is eventually -it is easier to buy a book then download a song from itunes, I need some self control :)
