Twilight

I know Katie has started reading the Twilight books . . . has anyone else? I am so intrigued. I almost wish we read them so we could go to the midnight book release next weekend. Salon recently published an interesting commentary on these books, starting with the observation that the main character is no Buffy!

I just had to share this- after reading Liz's post and the Salon article, I thought this would be an excellent request for a birthday present from my brother-in-law, an English professor who adores all things vampire, as well as young adult literature. Here's what he said about it:

I read the first book in the series. I strongly recommend against wasting your time on them. The first book reads like bad fanfiction, with a main character that hits so many of the bad stereotypes for young girls it's not even funny. Personally, I'd get it from the library, if you read it at all.

Considering what the article said about men not getting the series, it doesn't really surprise me but I thought it was funny. I still want to read the first one, though, I think I'm especially intrigued now!

That is funny. And he has strong opinions, doesn't he?

I just read the first one and started on the second. And yes, they are immature and teeny-boppy, but I coudln't put them down! Just lots of fun light-hearted reading!
